Happy 80th Birthday

January 16th, 2008

This year, we’ll eat cake

January 11th, 2008

On Wednesday, January 16th 2008 my father would have been 80 years old. This year will be 20 years since the last time we celebrated his birthday. Now, after all this time, we’re going to change that. We’re going to celebrate his life, not his passing. We’re going to have cake, listen to the music he loved, watch some old home movies, and send a couple balloons up to Heaven. A new tradition.

Since Benjamin will never meet his Pepeire, it’s important to celebrate some old traditions and create some of our own.

On to other news: Expect a redesign in the next couple months. Time for a facelift.

Counting Down…

Luck strikes twice.

October 29th, 2007

I remember as if it were yesterday. October 20th, 2004. Our wonderful Benjamin was brought into this world at 4:37 pm. 3 years later, he has blossomed into the best little buddy a Dad could ask for.

My wife and I believe he brought a little luck to the Red Sox that day as well, taking the ALCS in 7 games and coming back from a 3-0 deficit. I also remember our first 2 weeks at home being in constant delirium, sleeping when we could. Not much makes sense when you haven’t slept, and seeing the Sox win the World Series was equal parts joy and narcolepsy.

With slightly more sleep under the belt now, luck struck twice! Sox in 4!

home

September 3rd, 2007

i’m the ember
waiting for the wind
to blow
and turn this heavy timber
into ashes.

i can’t burn
without being stoked

i’m the feather
waiting for a gust
to fly
and make this ride
worth riding

i can’t fly
without wings

i’m the sand
waiting for the tide
to flush me
and return me
home

All I wanted was another Jack…

July 17th, 2007

It’s been a while, I know. The 4 readers salivating for content have come up rather dry lately. It’s been extremely busy and I haven’t been too compelled to write. It will slow down and I will write more, I promise. I’m about to jump on the “bash the man” bandwagon that seem to be rife in many well read blogs.

I need a phone jack installed in my home. I’m finally getting a DVR and need a phone line installed so said DirecTV install man who is coming next week will have a phone line in the proximity of the TV so said DVR will have someone to talk to. Seems like a simple operation. Just jump on Verizon.com and go to customer service (thought bubble: this seems like a common thing people need, a new phone jack… where the hell is the link for “install new phone jack”). Nada. I click repair services. Nada. Looking for a phone number. Only open 8 - 6. GAH. I call the repair services hotline (24 hours) and they tell me to call the Customer Service hotline, between the hours of 8 and 6.

Simple? No. I even did a search in their “support center” for “install phone jack” and nothing… I just want to know how much it will cost for a Verizon repair tech to come and run line to another wall and put a jack in the wall. If I were clever and more patient I would try it myself. But I’m not. I’ll move on.

I can’t believe how fast summer is flying by. Next Friday I’ll be in Vegas for a week and it looks like it’s gearing up to be a hot one. Average temps for next week is 108 degrees. Water. Lots of water. I learned my lesson last time.

As I type this, I haven’t had satellite service for the past few hours and am on hold with customer service… and they picked up the phone and gave great service! I’ll have my DVR installed Thursday and they will look into why I’m not getting service.

Please be patient with me

May 18th, 2007

This sums up a lot right now:

Please Be Patient With Me
by Wilco off Sky Blue Sky

I should warn you
When I’m not well
I can’t tell
Oh, there’s nothing I can do
To make this easier for you

You’re gonna need to be patient with me

I’m this apple, this happening stone
When I’m alone
Oh, but my blessings get so blurred
At the sound of your words

I’m gonna need you to be patient with me

How can I warn you when my tongue turns to dust
Like we’ve discussed
It doesn’t mean that I don’t care
It means I’m partially there

You’re gonna need to be patient with me

Dreaming of Montreal

April 4th, 2007

Last night I dreamt of Montreal. I dreamt that a group of friends had just hopped in a truck on a whim and drove up there. Now that I’m fully awake, I can’t remember a lot of the details. I remember having a great meal and then I woke up.

I truly love Montreal. It’s a city that equal parts cosmopolitan, old world, and gypsy. It’s a city that comes alive at night. The last time I visited was in 2003 with my wife. Our fondest memories were sitting in cafe’s above the street relaxing for hours. It is very European in that aspect. The service is slow - take your time and enjoy. I could have sat there all day.

Maybe it’s time to visit!

I found some great shots of the city here.
